Advantage Gold Review: Fees, Minimums, Custodians, Complaints
Advantage Gold LLC is a precious metals dealer in Austin, Texas that sells gold, silver, platinum and palladium, including for IRAs. Its website names two custodians and two depositories but, on the pages we read, states no minimum, no IRA fee amounts and no buyback terms. These are company statements.
Is Advantage Gold legitimate, and what does it charge?
Here is the short version of both questions.
"Legitimate" asks for a verdict, and we do not give verdicts on companies. What we can do is show what Advantage Gold says about itself, what independent records we could open, and what we could not check. Where we found nothing in a database, we name the database and the day. A search that finds nothing is not a clean bill of health. This page is one of several in our Gold IRA Companies Compared library, written under our company research methodology.
On charges, there is a gap you should know about right away. On the Advantage Gold pages we read, we did not find a dollar amount for any IRA account fee, a minimum investment, a premium over the market price, or a buyback policy. The company's FAQ names two custodians and two depositories, and the custodians publish their own fee schedules, which we summarize below. Which of those schedules would apply to a particular Advantage Gold customer is not stated on the pages we read. So the honest answer to "what does it charge?" is: ask, and get it in writing.
Who is Advantage Gold?
The website's legal notices identify the company as Advantage Gold LLC. According to its home page, it sells "pure gold, silver, platinum, and palladium as bullion coins and minted bars," and offers Gold IRA rollovers and direct delivery. The home page footer lists 3600 W Parmer Ln, Suite 107, Austin, Texas 78727 under "Address," with the phone number (888) 501-9001, and does not call it a main office. The contact page says "Our mailing address is 7600 Burnet Rd, Suite 560, Austin, TX 78757," with the same phone number, and the Terms and Conditions use the Burnet Rd address for the legal department. The contact page does not label the Parmer Ln address.
The About page lists Kirill Zagalsky as "CEO" and says he "co-founded Advantage Gold in 2014." BBB's profile, per the screenshots described below, lists him as Managing Director, so the two sources use different titles. The home page says "For the past 10-years, we have been committed to superior customer service and world class education." The About page also says the company has grown to over $1 billion in sales over the last 8 years. We could not check that. The About page describes the company's approach as "we guide, we never pressure."
One more point from the legal notices is plain and worth repeating. The site says Advantage Gold and its representatives "are not licensed or registered investment advisers, attorneys, CPA's or other financial service professionals," and that the statements on the website "are opinions of Advantage Gold LLC." We did not find a license or registration number on the pages we read, so this page does not give you one to look up. We explain below which other records we checked.

How does a Gold IRA with Advantage Gold work?
A Gold IRA is a self-directed Individual Retirement Account (IRA) that holds physical metal instead of mutual funds or stocks. In Advantage Gold's description, three parties are involved.
- The dealer sells you the metal. Here, that is Advantage Gold.
- The custodian is the company that legally holds your IRA, keeps the records and files the tax forms. Advantage Gold's FAQ names STRATA Trust Company and Equity Trust Company.
- The depository is the secure vault where the metal is kept. The FAQ names Brink's Global Services USA, Inc. and Delaware Depository.
Our guide to the custodian, the dealer and the depository explains why you will receive agreements and fee schedules from more than one place. For the general process, see how a Gold IRA works and rolling a 401(k) into a Gold IRA.
The company's Gold IRA page lists three steps under "How to Invest in a Gold IRA": understand the rules, choose a gold IRA company, and purchase gold and other precious metals. It says "taking physical possession of your gold counts as withdrawing from your retirement fund."
The home page also mentions metal "delivered directly to you." The company's own Gold IRA page treats taking possession as a withdrawal, so ask a tax professional before choosing that route. Our guide on the collectibles rule explains why.
What does Advantage Gold say the fees are?
The short answer is that we found no Advantage Gold fee amounts for IRAs on the pages we read. Here is what the pages do say.
| Topic | What the page says | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Physical gold, annual fee | Table row reads "One-time dealer premium at purchase; no annual fee." | FAQs |
| Dealer premium amount | Not given | FAQs, product page |
| Account setup, custodian and storage fees | Not given by Advantage Gold; the page says nothing on whether depository fees apply | FAQs, Gold IRA page |
| Markups and commissions | Mentioned only in a disclaimer: no guarantee that metals will appreciate enough to cover "the mark up/commissions charged" | Risk disclosures |
The "no annual fee" row sits in a comparison table about physical metal next to gold ETFs. It does not say whether a custodian or depository charges annual IRA fees, and the custodians' schedules below show that they do.
The company's blog post, "How much does a Gold IRA cost?", gives industry-wide averages rather than its own prices, such as "Most depositories charge yearly amounts that average between $175 and $225." It also says the dealer's premium over the market price is "the larger cost on most accounts" (the company's statement) and that "a premium far above the market is the number to question." The post does not say what Advantage Gold's own premium is. For general background, see our guides to custodian fees, storage fees and hidden fees.
What do the custodians' own fee schedules show?
We opened the fee information published by the two custodians Advantage Gold names. We do not know which schedule, if any, applies to its customers.
STRATA Trust Company
STRATA's fees page lists the following for precious metals accounts. The page shows no effective date or revision number, only a 2025 copyright line, and says the fees "are subject to change without notice."
| Fee | Amount on STRATA's page |
|---|---|
| Account setup | $50, waived for electronic setup |
| Annual IRA fee, "Precious Metals" tier | $150 (not prorated; due at opening and each anniversary) |
| Annual storage, commingled | $115 |
| Annual storage, segregated | $175 (gold, platinum and palladium; depository exceptions may apply) |
| Purchase, sale or exchange | $40 |
| Depository handling and processing | $35 |
| Precious metals shipping | $10 plus the depository's cost |
| Outgoing wire | $35 |
| Annual IRA fee, "Flex" tier (can also hold precious metals) | $395, plus the storage fees above |
On its About page, STRATA says it was "founded in 2008 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Horizon Bank, SSB," that it is formerly known as Self Directed IRA Services, Inc., and that it is regulated by the Texas Department of Banking. The page does not mention IRS approval. See also our planned STRATA Trust Company profile.
Equity Trust Company
Equity Trust's fee page links to three PDF schedules: a Universal IRA schedule, a "Legacy Retail" schedule that it describes as applying to retail accounts opened before August 2024 that are not managed by a financial advisor or other professional, and an Institutional schedule. We read the Universal schedule (form FS-0001-01, printed with "Rev. 110625").
| Fee on the Universal schedule | Amount |
|---|---|
| Online account setup | $50 (paper application: $75) |
| Annual maintenance, account under $50,000 | $350 |
| Annual maintenance, $50,000 to $99,999 | $500 |
| Precious metals storage, segregated | $160 |
| Precious metals storage, non-segregated | $110 |
| In-kind distribution or transfer out | $50 per transaction |
| Domestic or international wire | $30 each |
The schedule states that its fees "are effective from January to January of any given calendar year; and are subject to change." We did not read the other two schedules.
Equity Trust's precious metals client page lists depositories its clients can use, including A-Mark Global Logistics (Loomis International), Brink's, Delaware Depository, International Depository Services and Texas Bullion Depository. It says that when you buy metals, "you and your dealer will discuss the depository options available," and that "All accounts holding metals are assessed an annual maintenance and storage fee."
What these numbers mean together
The yearly cost of a Gold IRA depends on the custodian, the schedule that applies to you, the account size and the type of storage. On the figures above, a first year with electronic setup at STRATA would be $265 to $325 in setup, account and storage fees, and at Equity Trust's Universal schedule for a $50,000 to $99,999 account it would be $660 to $710. That is our arithmetic on published numbers, before dealer premiums and transaction fees, not what any Advantage Gold customer pays. Our guide on segregated and commingled storage explains the storage choice.
Are the custodians on the IRS list?
The IRS publishes a list of nonbank trustees and custodians it has approved. The version we opened was headed "Nonbank Trustees Approved as of April 1, 2026," and the IRS page that links it was reviewed or updated on 28 June 2026. We could not confirm whether STRATA, Self Directed IRA Services or Equity Trust appears on that list, so we draw no conclusion from it.
Each custodian says something about its own status. Equity Trust says on its regulatory page that it is "regulated as a South Dakota trust company," that the South Dakota Division of Banking regulates it, and that the IRS list is not a complete list of every custodian. STRATA says it is regulated by the Texas Department of Banking. Those are the companies' statements; we did not confirm them with the state regulators or the IRS and offer no legal conclusion. If you want to know who is allowed to hold your IRA, ask the custodian in writing. See our guide on custodian requirements.
What is the minimum, and who does it leave out?
The Advantage Gold pages we read state no minimum investment. The Gold IRA page says only that contributions "must follow the annual IRA contribution limits," which is a yearly limit, not a minimum purchase. That does not mean there is no minimum; it means we do not know it. Ask what the smallest IRA purchase is, and whether it differs for cash purchases or other metals. Our page on minimum investment explains how minimums vary across the market.
What do you pay for the metal itself?
The spot price is the current market price for one troy ounce of the metal. A dealer sells above spot (the added amount is called the premium or markup) and buys back below spot. The difference between the selling price and the buyback price is the spread. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) puts it in its customer advisory on buying physical metals: "A dealer will always sell metal above the spot price and buy it back below the spot price." The advisory also says to "Ask for all fees, costs, commissions, and agreed retail price in writing," and "If fees are not available in writing before your purchase, that is a red flag." It suggests asking "how much you would receive if you had to sell back the metal tomorrow."
What does Advantage Gold's website say? Its precious metals page shows a fixed dollar price for many items, and some show only "Learn more" instead of a price. We did not find an explanation on the pages we read of how those prices relate to the spot price, what the premium is, or what the buyback price would be. The risk disclosures refer to "the mark up/commissions charged" without any amount. Product prices change, so we do not repeat any.
A made-up example, not Advantage Gold's pricing: suppose you pay $10,000 for coins, and the metal in them is worth $9,500 at the spot price on that day, a premium of about 5.3 percent. Suppose a dealer would buy the same coins back at 1 percent below spot. With the market price unchanged, you would receive $9,405, which is $595 less than you paid. Our guide to dealer premiums, markups and spreads shows how to compare quotes. Whatever the dealer, ask for the sale price, the spot price at the time of the quote and the current buyback price in writing, for each product.
What does Advantage Gold say about buying back your metals?
Very little. The FAQ page says "We'll never turn away a customer" in its discussion of what happens when you sell, and then tells readers to contact the company for details. The page does not describe how the buyback price is set, whether there is a fee, how long it takes or whether the policy can change. We did not find a buyback statement on the Terms and Conditions or the risk disclosures either.
"We'll never turn away a customer" is a statement we cannot verify, and it is not a promise of a price. See buyback policies and liquidation costs and liquidity risk.
Where is the metal stored, and is it insured?
According to Advantage Gold's FAQ, it works with Brink's Global Services USA, Inc., with locations named as Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, and with Delaware Depository in Wilmington, Delaware. It also says that once you open a Gold IRA, "you must store your precious metals with an IRS-approved third-party depository." The home page, by contrast, describes the depository only as "an IRS-approved depository."
We read the Delaware Depository home page. It lists addresses in Wilmington, Delaware and Boulder City, Nevada, and says it is "a SSAE18 - SOC1 Type1 audited organization." We found no insurance statement or fees there. We also read Brink's U.S. home page, which had no statements about IRA storage, insurance or audits, so we have nothing from Brink's to report. That does not mean the depositories have no insurance or published fees. It means we could not confirm them from the pages we opened. The Advantage Gold pages we read do not mention insurance or storage fees. Ask for the depository's current fee schedule and insurance details in writing. Our guide to IRA metals insurance lists what to request.
What does Advantage Gold say about awards and reviews?
The company's pages make ranking and award claims, and we treat all of them as the company's own statements. We do not repeat "#1" claims as facts.
| Claim on Advantage Gold's pages | What we could and could not tell |
|---|---|
| "America's #1 Rated Gold Company" and "#1 rated gold IRA company in America" (home page) | No source, scoring method or date given on the pages we read |
| TrustLink recognized it as "America's #1 Trusted Gold IRA Company 8 consecutive years in a row" (home page) | Company-reported; the page gives no year range; we did not open TrustLink |
| "awarded the #1 Gold IRA Service Provider for 2024 by Financial Services Review" (company page) | This is the company's own announcement on its own site; we did not open the publisher |
| "Over a Thousand 5-Star Reviews" on Trustpilot (home page) | The page shows no score or review count; we did not use third-party review sites as sources |
The home page and About page each show a logo whose alt text reads "Inc. 500 fastest-growing private companies," while the CEO's biography on the About page refers to "Inc. 5000." We did not open Inc.'s lists. The reviews page gives no numeric ratings, no review counts and no dates for individual reviews, and does not say how reviews are collected. Our guides on how review sites make money and fake reviews explain how to read such claims.
What does Advantage Gold's BBB profile show?
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a nonprofit that publishes business profiles, customer reviews and complaint records. BBB's website could not be opened. The figures in this section come from screenshots of Advantage Gold LLC's BBB pages, viewed by the site owner on 2026-10-15. They have not been re-checked against the live pages.
| BBB profile item | What the screenshots show |

| Management listed | Ms. Chelsey Jenkins, Operations Director; Mr. Kirill Zagalsky, Managing Director |
| Customer review average | 3.91 average from 11 customer reviews |
| Complaints tab | "This business has 0 complaints" |
A few points help you read this table.
The dates. BBB shows an accredited-since date and a business-started date in 2014, and a file-opened date and an incorporation date in 2023. The screenshots do not explain the difference, and we draw no conclusion from it.
Company-supplied text. The "About This Business" text on the profile is likely supplied by the company, so treat it as the company's description.
A resource box. BBB lists the Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner under "Other Resources." The screenshots do not say Advantage Gold is licensed or registered with it, and we make no statement about licensing.
Complaints. BBB's Complaints tab shows 0 complaints, according to the screenshot. That is BBB's displayed figure.
Customer reviews. The BBB customer-review average is not the BBB letter grade. The 3.91 average from 11 reviews is a separate measure, and BBB says its letter grade does not use reviews. The first page of reviews included several 5-star reviews and three 1-star reviews. The 1-star reviews contain complaints about pricing or premiums and about communication. These are consumers' unverified opinions, and we have not checked any of them. We do not repeat their specifics.
What do the website terms say?
When you use a company's website, you agree to its Terms and Conditions. These are not necessarily the same as the order paperwork you sign to buy metal, which we did not see. We can only describe the website terms.
- Arbitration. Disputes go to "BINDING, FINAL, AND CONFIDENTIAL ARBITRATION" before a single arbitrator, administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The terms say the arbitrator "MAY NOT HEAR CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE CLAIMS."
- Opt-out. The terms say you may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of the date you purchased a product or service through the website, by sending a letter to the company's legal department in Austin.
- Cancellation. "You must contact us within twenty-four (24) hours in order to attempt to modify or cancel your pending order," and the company says it "cannot guarantee" that it can amend an order as you ask. If an order is cancelled under that policy, the company says it will credit back the price paid at the time you ordered.
- All sales final. The terms say "all sales are final" and that "there are no refunds, exchanges, or returns permitted unless otherwise specified."
- Price set at confirmation. Once a confirmation number is issued, the terms say "the transaction price is set," and any market risk is yours unless you properly cancel under the 24-hour clause.
- Customer default. If an order is cancelled for the customer's default, the terms say the customer is liable for "any market loss," plus a fee. The fee wording on the page reads "[$$$ or %%]," which looks like an unfilled template placeholder. We cannot tell what amount, if any, applies.
The page shows no date in its body. Read them before you agree. We are not lawyers, and none of this is legal advice. If you are about to sign an agreement, a lawyer you trust can review it.
What public records did we check?
Our methodology lists the records we look for. Here is what happened for Advantage Gold on 2026-10-15.
| Source | What we did | Result | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| CFPB Consumer Complaint Database | Ran the search text "advantage gold" through the database's search interface, all fields | 0 results | 2026-10-15 |
| IRS nonbank trustees list (April 1, 2026) | Opened the list PDF | The text we could read did not settle whether the custodians appear; no conclusion drawn | 2026-10-15 |
| Web search for lawsuits and regulator actions | A single search combining "Advantage Gold," Austin, lawsuit, complaint, attorney general, CFTC and FTC | Results were general web pages and unrelated precious-metals cases; none was relied on | 2026-10-15 |
| BBB profile, complaints and customer-review pages | Reviewed screenshots viewed by the site owner (bbb.org could not be opened) | See the BBB section above; 0 complaints shown | 2026-10-15 |
| FTC, SEC and CFTC enforcement pages, state attorney general, FINRA BrokerCheck, SEC EDGAR, NFA BASIC, PACER and state courts | Not searched | Not checked | n/a |
Two cautions apply. A zero in the CFPB database means only that no complaint under that search text appeared on that day. A general web search is not a search of a court docket or regulator's records, and finding nothing does not prove nothing exists.
We make no claim that Advantage Gold has, or has not, been the subject of a lawsuit, regulatory action or complaint outside the records above. We found no order or judgment naming the company in anything we opened. If you want to run the other checks yourself, our guide on how to verify a dealer walks through each step, and our enforcement database will list any cases we find in orders and complaints we have read.
What should you ask Advantage Gold before you sign anything?
Whichever dealer you consider, these questions come from regulators' own advice and from the gaps we found above. Ask for the answers in writing.
- What are the sale price, spot price and buyback price for each product? Ask for all three at once, plus the premium as a percentage.
- Which custodian and which fee schedule apply to me? Ask for a copy with its revision date.
- What is the minimum for an IRA purchase?
- What does "no annual fee" mean for an IRA? Ask what the custodian and depository charge each year, and whether storage is segregated.
- What are my cancellation rights, and what fee applies on a default? The website terms show a blank placeholder.
- What are the buyback terms? Ask about fees, timing and whether the policy can change.
- How are your sales staff paid? The CFTC advisory, in its item on fees and commissions, advises asking the people you talk to how they are paid.
- Which legal entity am I contracting with, and may I read the full purchase agreement, including arbitration terms, before I send money?
Our full checklist is in the guide on how to evaluate a Gold IRA company.
What are the risks that apply no matter which company you pick?
No dealer, custodian or depository can remove the basic risks of owning physical metal. Advantage Gold's own risk disclosures say "Precious metals can and will fluctuate unexpectedly," and that investing in precious metals directly or through an IRA "is not suitable for all investors." See our guides to price volatility and counterparty risk, meaning the chance that a company you depend on fails to do its part. We do not predict prices, and nothing here is a forecast.
How does this compare with other companies?
We publish every company review on the same fields and do not rank them. For the same structure, see our Goldco review, our Lear Capital review or planned Noble Gold Investments review. A side-by-side page is planned: Advantage Gold vs Goldco. For the wider picture of how dealers, custodians and depositories fit together, start at Gold IRA Companies Compared.
How was this page researched, and when will it be updated?
On October 15, 2026, we opened the Advantage Gold, STRATA, Equity Trust, Delaware Depository, Brink's, IRS, CFTC and CFPB pages cited above, and used screenshots of Advantage Gold's BBB pages viewed by the site owner on the same date. BBB's website could not be opened. Anything that came only from Advantage Gold is written as its statement, and we left out facts we could not confirm from a page we opened.
Fees, terms and company information are reviewed every three months under our update policy, and sooner if a regulator announces an action or a reader reports an error. If you see something here that is out of date, please tell us through our corrections page.
This page is general information, not personalized advice, and it is not a recommendation to open, or to avoid opening, an account with Advantage Gold or anyone else. Decisions about your retirement savings depend on your own situation, so talk with a qualified financial planner, tax professional or attorney before you act.
