Advantage Gold vs Goldco: Fees, Minimums, Custodians
Goldco's website states a $25,000 general minimum and dollar fee figures, though its pages disagree with each other, and it names no custodian. Advantage Gold's website states no minimum or IRA fee amounts but names two custodians and two depositories. Their dispute terms, buyback wording and BBB figures also differ, as set out below.
What is this comparison, and how current is it?
This page puts two dealers side by side on the same fields: Advantage Gold and Goldco. It follows our company research methodology and is part of our library to compare Gold IRA companies side by side. Both are dealers. Usually a separate custodian holds the IRA and a separate depository stores the metal. See the custodian, the dealer and the depository.
We do not rank, score or recommend companies, and nothing here says which one suits anyone. Company information is written as the company's own statement.
Dates matter. Companies change pages, fees and terms without notice. We re-opened both companies' own pages on 2026-10-18. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) figures and public-records searches come from our 2026-10-15 check, labeled as such. Confirm anything important in writing.
How do the two companies compare at a glance?
The table uses the same fields for both companies. "Not stated" means we did not find it on the pages we opened. It does not mean the company has no such term.

What do the two companies say about fees?
Advantage Gold. On the pages we opened, Advantage Gold states no setup, annual or storage fee for IRAs. Its FAQ page has a table row that reads "One-time dealer premium at purchase; no annual fee," in a comparison of physical gold with exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The row does not say what a custodian or depository charges.
Goldco. Goldco's pages give dollar figures, but not the same ones (see the conflicts section below).
Source: Goldco's cost article, FAQ article and minimum article.
What the custodians publish. We do not know which of Advantage Gold's two custodians applies to a given customer. STRATA's fee page lists a $50 account setup fee (waived for electronic setup), an annual IRA fee of $150 for its precious metals tier and $395 for its Flex tier, and storage of $115 (commingled) or $175 (segregated). Equity Trust's fee page shows no dollar amounts itself. As of our 2026-10-15 check, its Universal IRA schedule PDF listed a $50 online setup fee and annual maintenance that depends on account value, starting at $350 for accounts under $50,000 and $500 for $50,000 to $99,999, with higher tiers above that. See custodian fees and storage fees.
What does each company say about minimums?
Goldco's cost article says "we generally require a minimum of $25,000 to start a gold IRA." Its FAQ article says "at least $25,000 available to roll over." Its minimum article instead says "it depends."
Advantage Gold's pages state no minimum. Its Gold IRA page says only that deposits "must follow the annual IRA contribution limits," which is a yearly legal cap, not a minimum purchase. See minimum investment.
Who is the custodian, and where is the metal stored?
Advantage Gold. Its FAQ says: "We work with STRATA Trust Company and Equity Trust Company as our recommended choice as IRA custodian." For storage it names "Brink's Global Services USA, Inc. (Los Angeles or Salt Lake City)" and "Delaware Depository (Wilmington, DE)." The FAQ also says you "must store your precious metals with an IRS-approved third-party depository." The Gold IRA page says taking physical possession "counts as withdrawing from your retirement fund."
Goldco. No Goldco page we opened names a custodian. The pages use only general wording such as "established gold IRA custodians." Goldco's pages refer only to "established bullion depositories" and a "bullion depository" in general terms.
IRS list. As of our 2026-10-15 check, we could not confirm from the IRS list of approved nonbank trustees whether the custodians Advantage Gold names appear on it.
What do they say about the price of the metal and buying it back?
The spot price is the current market price of the metal; a dealer sells above it (the added amount is the premium) and buys back below it. The gap is the spread. The CFTC says in its customer advisory (as of our 2026-10-15 check): "A dealer will always sell metal above the spot price and buy it back below the spot price."
Advantage Gold. Its precious metals page shows fixed dollar prices on 11 products. We found no buyback price and no explanation of how those prices relate to spot.
Goldco. A footnote on the 5 Reasons page offers "up to 5% back in FREE Silver" on purchases of $50,000 to $99,999 and "10% in FREE Silver" on $100,000 or more in "Goldco premium coins." It adds "Cannot be combined with any other offer."
Buyback wording.
| Point | Advantage Gold | Goldco |
|---|---|---|
| Conditions stated | None. No pricing, fees or timing | "The highest price buy back guarantee applies after three years from initial purchase"; "No specific buy back rates guaranteed"; "For additional details, please see your customer agreement" |
We treat Goldco's "no fees" line as a marketing claim; it does not say what a custodian or depository might charge. See buyback policies and liquidation costs.
What do the website terms say?
We saw neither company's sales agreement, so this section describes only what each website shows.
| Term | Advantage Gold terms | Goldco terms and privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Arbitration | "BINDING, FINAL, AND CONFIDENTIAL ARBITRATION" before a single arbitrator, administered by the American Arbitration Association under its consumer rules | None found |
| Opt-out | Within 30 days of purchase, by letter to its legal department | Not applicable |
| Cancellation | Contact within 24 hours to "attempt to modify or cancel" a pending order | Not stated |
| Sales final | "all sales are final, and there are no refunds, exchanges, or returns permitted unless otherwise specified" | Not stated |
| Default | On default, the company "may cancel your order"; the customer is responsible for market loss plus a fee reading "the greater of [$$$ or %%] of the order total fee," which looks like an unfilled placeholder | Not stated |
Goldco's page titled "Terms & Conditions" reads mostly like a privacy policy. We did not read the text under "Promotion Terms." Arbitration clauses are often in the agreement you sign, so their absence on a website says nothing certain about Goldco's actual agreement. This is not legal advice.
What does BBB show for each company?
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a nonprofit that publishes business profiles, reviews and complaint records. BBB's website blocks our automated tools, so everything here comes from screenshots viewed by the site owner on 2026-10-15, not re-checked live. BBB says it does not endorse any business.
| BBB item (per screenshots viewed by the site owner on 2026-10-15) | Advantage Gold LLC | Goldco |
|---|---|---|
| Business started; incorporated | Started 6/4/2014; locally 5/14/2023; incorporated 5/14/2023 | Both 10/25/2011 |
| Complaints shown | "This business has 0 complaints" | 72 total in the last 3 years; 36 filed in the last 12 months |
| Customer-review average | 3.91 from 11 reviews | 4.81 from 1,716 reviews |
How to read these figures. The A+ is BBB's letter grade. BBB states that customer reviews "are not used in the calculation of the BBB Letter Grade Rating," so review averages are not BBB ratings. BBB's dates for Advantage Gold differ (accredited since 2014, file opened and incorporated in 2023), and the screenshots do not explain why.
Complaint counts are not comparable between firms. The companies differ in size and transaction volume, and BBB itself notes that the nature of complaints can matter more than the number. A count of 72 versus 0 implies nothing about how either company treats customers. BBB also notes that complaint text shown might not represent all complaints filed.
What we read of Goldco's complaints. The site owner read only the first two in detail. All are consumers' allegations; no judgment or order appears. One, dated 08/25/2026, alleged a family member could not confirm access to an inherited account, and Goldco replied on 09/03/2026 that the person was not shown as an authorized party. Another, dated 08/21/2026, alleged deceptive sales representations, excessive markups on specialty coins and an obstructed liquidation. We do not know the outcome of either.
What we read of Advantage Gold's reviews. The first page of its BBB reviews included several 5-star and three 1-star reviews alleging pricing or premium concerns and difficulty reaching an adviser. They are unverified consumer opinions.
What public records did we check?
As of our 2026-10-15 check, we ran the same searches for both companies.
| Source | Advantage Gold | Goldco |
|---|---|---|
| CFPB Consumer Complaint Database (search text, all fields) | 0 results | 0 results |
| FINRA BrokerCheck (firm-name search only) | 4 firms returned; none this company | 1 firm returned; not this company |
A zero in the CFPB database means only that no complaint matched that search text on that day. A missing record is not a finding about a company.
Goldco: court and settlement records. Neither item is a finding against Goldco.
- Goldco Direct, LLC v. Wilson, No. 4:18-CV-850-KOB (N.D. Ala.). In an opinion dated March 27, 2019 Goldco Direct, LLC is the plaintiff. The court denied one defendant's motion to dismiss and to transfer. The opinion does not decide the underlying claims.
- Summerton v. Goldco Direct LLC, No. 23-cv-238-wmc. ClassAction.org reports a $2,000,000 settlement of a class action alleging that Goldco "illegally sent excessive marketing texts to consumers on the Do Not Call Registry." It lists a hearing on March 26, 2026. The page does not name the court or say whether Goldco admitted wrongdoing. As of our 2026-10-15 check, a TCPAWorld report dated March 27, 2026 placed the case in the Western District of Wisconsin and said the court granted approval. A settlement is not a finding that the allegations were true. The suit concerned text-message marketing.
Advantage Gold. We found no order, judgment or lawsuit report naming the company in anything we opened. That is not a statement that none exists.
See how to verify a dealer and our enforcement database.
Where do each company's own pages disagree?
We show these conflicts without choosing between them.
Goldco
- Annual account fee: $125 on the cost article, "around $80" on the FAQ article.
- Yearly total: "about $225" (cost article), "ballpark of $200" (FAQ), "$200-300" (minimum article).
- Minimum: "generally" $25,000 on two pages; "it depends" on a third.
- Buyback: a "highest price" guarantee, with a footnote that it applies after three years and guarantees no specific rates; the About page adds "PLUS no fees when you're ready to liquidate."
- Awards: the home page lists "2025 Inc. Regionals: Pacific Ranked #18," while the About page says it was "Named the #1 Precious Metals Company on the 2025 INC5000." We did not open Inc.'s lists to check either claim.
Advantage Gold
- Address: Parmer Ln on the home page footer; Burnet Rd on the contact page and terms.
- Inc. list: image alt text on the home page says "Inc. 500 fastest-growing private companies," while the CEO's biography says "Inc. 5000."
- Review counts: the home page says "Over a Thousand 5-Star Reviews," and the About page's description says "thousands of 5-star reviews."
- Ratings claims: pages make "#1" claims in several forms, including a Financial Services Review award that the company announces itself, with no link to the awarding publication.
What did we not check?
- Neither company's sales agreement, account application or fee schedule for an actual account.
- Any quote, price or premium. Both sets of pages leave premiums unstated.
- The live BBB pages (screenshots only), and the publishers of any award or rating.
- Whether the custodians or depositories are approved, insured or audited as the companies describe. Delaware Depository, Brink's and STRATA's About page were not re-opened on 2026-10-18.
- Court dockets, state regulators, Investor.gov, SEC EDGAR, NFA BASIC, CourtListener and PACER.
- How either company pays its representatives.
What differs and what does not?
Differences, stated as facts from each company's pages
- Advantage Gold states no minimum; Goldco states a general $25,000.
- Advantage Gold states no IRA fee amounts; Goldco states dollar figures for setup, annual and storage fees.
- Advantage Gold names two custodians and two depositories; Goldco names none.
- Advantage Gold's website terms contain a binding arbitration clause with a 30-day opt-out; the Goldco website pages we read contain none.
- Goldco's pages state a buyback guarantee with a three-year condition and "No specific buy back rates guaranteed"; Advantage Gold's FAQ gives no conditions at all.
- BBB shows 0 complaints for Advantage Gold and 72 for Goldco over three years, per screenshots, and neither number is comparable without size and volume (see above).
- Goldco has two court-related items on public record; we found none for Advantage Gold.
What is the same
- Both are dealers, not custodians or depositories.
- Both show BBB accreditation and an A+ rating, per screenshots.
- Neither states a spread or markup amount on the pages we opened.
- Both say they are not licensed financial advisers.
- Both make ratings or award claims that we could not verify.
- Neither showed a CFPB complaint match or a FINRA firm match under its name as of our 2026-10-15 check.

How was this page researched?
On 2026-10-18 we re-opened the Advantage Gold pages and Goldco pages listed in the citations, the STRATA and Equity Trust fee pages, the 2019 court opinion and the ClassAction.org report. The BBB figures, the CFPB and FINRA searches, the IRS list check, the CFTC quotations, the Equity Trust PDF figures and the TCPAWorld report are from our 2026-10-15 check and were not repeated.
