American Hartford Gold vs Noble Gold Investments: Fees, Minimums, Custodians
American Hartford Gold's FAQ states a $10,000 IRA minimum; Noble Gold Investments' IRA pages state $20,000. Noble Gold's pages list two conflicting sets of account fees; American Hartford Gold's pages give no dollar fee schedule. This page lays out published terms, BBB figures and public records side by side, without ranking either.
This page puts two precious metals dealers next to each other using only what each company publishes, plus public records and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) figures we have on file. It does not rank or score them. See also our hub to compare Gold IRA companies side by side. Dates matter. Company pages were re-opened on 2026-10-18. Items we could not re-open that day are marked "as of our 2026-10-15 check." Companies change terms without notice, so confirm every figure with the company in writing. Facts about a company below are that company's own claims unless an independent source is named.
A few terms. A dealer sells you the metal. A custodian is the bank or approved non-bank firm that holds your IRA. A depository is the vault where the metal is stored. The spread is the gap between the price a dealer charges you and the price it would pay to buy the same metal back. The spot price is the current market price for one troy ounce.

What do the two companies charge for the IRA account?
American Hartford Gold. According to its website, the Gold IRA article says "there may also be setup fees associated with opening your Gold IRA." Its FAQ says "Fees vary based on your account's size and the metal holdings in your depository." Neither page gives a dollar amount.
Dollar figures sit in the custodian's schedule. Equity Trust's fee page lists three schedules (Universal IRA, legacy retail, institutional); we repeat no numbers. STRATA's fee page lists a $150 annual IRA fee for its Precious Metals Tier, and says its processing and service fees are "subject to change without notice." No American Hartford Gold page we read names STRATA.
Noble Gold Investments. According to its website, two sets of figures do not match.
| Fee | Gold IRA and Silver IRA pages | Support page and "What Is a Gold IRA?" |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | $50, one time | $80, one time |
| Annual maintenance or custodial | $125 | $125 for custodial services |
| Annual storage | $160 | $150 for segregated storage |
| Other | Wire $30, in-kind distribution $75, closure $250 (one time each) | Not listed; the "What Is a Gold IRA?" page says "possible closing fees may apply" |
The Support page also says "some companies advertise an annual fee of $160" and describes that as usually reflecting commingled storage, where metals are stored alongside others, yet $160 is the storage line on Noble Gold's own IRA pages. Both sets were live on 2026-10-18, and we cannot tell which is current.
What are the minimums?
American Hartford Gold's FAQ says: "The minimum order size for our self-directed Gold IRA is $10,000."
Noble Gold's Gold IRA page says its Gold IRA minimum is $20,000 and its Silver IRA page says the Silver IRA minimum is $20,000. The same Gold IRA page lists $10,000 as the minimum for cash purchase and home delivery, while its Home Delivery and home pages state no cash minimum.
Who is the custodian, and where is the metal stored?
American Hartford Gold. According to its Gold IRA article, "As a client, you will enjoy the experienced custodial services of Equity Trust Company." A separate "Custodian and Depository Information" list also shows Entrust (Santa Monica, CA) without saying in so many words that Entrust is a custodian. The article lists three depositories: Delaware Depository (Wilmington, DE and Boulder City, NV; segregated or non-segregated), A-M Global Logistics (Las Vegas, NV and Irving, TX) and International Depository Services (New Castle, DE and Dallas, TX; segregated only). The FAQ names Brinks Global Services and Delaware Depository.
Noble Gold Investments. According to its website, its Gold IRA and Silver IRA pages say it will connect you with "a trusted precious metals IRA custodian." The Silver IRA page also says "Noble Gold is the only custodian offering a flat-fee structure," without explaining how that fits with the separate custodian. Its Support page, however, says in the Gold IRA section that "your custodian Equity Institutional" offers online account access, and in the Silver IRA section that "your custodian New Direction IRA Services" does. Its fund-transfer answers name "Equity Trust IRA." New Direction's own site says physical custody is provided by First Trust Company of Onaga, in Kansas.
For storage, the Support page says Noble Gold "has partnered with International Depository Services (IDS)" and that IDS has locations in Texas and Delaware in the USA. Its Texas page describes a partnership with IDS in Dallas, while its "What Is a Gold IRA?" page says "we store your gold in our secure Texas depository" and names no third party. Its Home Delivery page also lists IDS. Equity Trust's precious metals client page lists five depositories, including a separate Texas Bullion Depository.
As of our 2026-10-15 check of the IRS April 1, 2026 non-bank trustee list, we did not find Equity Trust, Entrust, STRATA, New Direction, Noble Gold, Golden Bull or American Hartford Gold in readable text. That proves little, because the list is not complete; ask each custodian how it is authorized.
What do they say about pricing, spread and markup?
The CFTC says, as of our 2026-10-15 check: "A dealer will always sell metal above the spot price and buy it back below the spot price."
American Hartford Gold publishes numbers in its Shipping and Transaction Agreement (2026/09 upload), Paragraph 4(B). It says that on the date the agreement was offered, the spread for cash and IRA transactions was:
| Product type | Spread stated in the agreement |
|---|---|
| Bullion | 1.00% up to 19.99% |
| Exclusive coins and semi-numismatic coins | Up to 39.99% |
| Certain numismatic coins with particularly limited supply | Up to 59.99% |
Paragraph 4(D) says its sales representatives are paid on commission "based at least partially on the volume and profit margin," and that they are not licensed. It also says a 3% merchant processing fee applies to card payments. Noble Gold publishes no spread or premium figure on the pages we read. Its Support page says "We offer a flat fee structure when you acquire the metals from us." Its "What Is a Gold IRA?" page says paying a markup is "common" and that commissions are "typically modest, with most averaging around $40."
What are the buyback and return terms?
American Hartford Gold. The agreement (Paragraph 6) says "applicable laws currently prohibit AHG from guaranteeing to repurchase precious metals it sells," and that its repurchase offers can change over time. The commitment page says, "While we cannot guarantee that we will repurchase metals," and "we never charge any additional liquidation fees." Its Gold IRA article says it offers "a buy-back commitment with no back-end fees."
A May 1, 2025 price protection release says a re-pricing request must be made by telephone within 7 calendar days of the purchase, and that the program "can be changed or discontinued at any time."
On returns, the agreement (Paragraph 3) describes a satisfaction guarantee if you notify the company by phone and email within seven days of signing, return the merchandise within three days of delivery, and receive a refund within thirty days of its receipt of the returned items. The 3% card fee is not refundable, and a state addendum may change these terms. Its Risk Disclosure page says "all sales are final and precious metals cannot be exchanged or returned for a refund." Noble Gold. Its Support page says "We offer a Buyback program to ensure that you are not left with the task of finding a buyer." We found no buyback terms, price commitment or return policy on its Terms & Conditions, Gold IRA or "What Is a Gold IRA?" pages. Its Terms & Conditions say shipping may not occur until 45 business days after receipt of good funds.
What do the websites' legal terms say about disputes?
American Hartford Gold's agreement sends disputes to JAMS arbitration, with a jury waiver, a one-year filing limit, a bar on joining claims with others, the customer's home-state law and a liability cap equal to the amount paid for the metals at issue. Its website terms instead name American Arbitration Association arbitration, California law, Los Angeles courts as the venue and a $100 liability cap. The agreement also says the company may amend it "at any time solely by written notice."
Noble Gold's Terms & Conditions page says that using the site means you agree to its terms and privacy policy, but we found no separate terms-of-service text there. We cannot say what agreement a Noble Gold customer signs; its BBB replies refer to a "Shipping and Transaction Agreement," which we did not obtain.
What do the BBB profiles show?
BBB's profiles show the following, per screenshots viewed by the site owner on 2026-10-15. We could not re-open bbb.org, and BBB can change a profile at any time.
| BBB field | American Hartford Gold | Noble Gold Investments |
|---|---|---|
| Rating | A+; BBB Accredited Business | A+; BBB Accredited Business |
| Accredited since | 6/2/2016 | 1/22/2017 |
| Customer reviews | 4.81 average of 831 customer reviews | 4.98 average of 241 customer reviews |
| Complaints, last 3 years | 112 | 3 |
| Complaints, last 12 months | 40 | 1 |
BBB customer review averages are not BBB's own rating, and BBB notes that displayed complaint text might not represent all complaints filed. Complaint counts are not comparable between firms of different size and transaction volume, and a count alone implies nothing about either company. Complaints are allegations, and the company's replies are its own statements.
For Noble Gold, the screenshots show three complaint threads: silver purity doubts (resolved; the consumer later said it was pure), alleged undisclosed fees or commission versus spot (the company replied that it charges no custodial or hidden fees and that spreads vary), and alleged inconsistent statements about taxes. For American Hartford Gold the screenshot resolution was too low to read individual complaints, so we state only the counts.
Noble Gold's home page says "265+ Reviews on Better Business Bureau"; the screenshots show 241.
What do the public records show?
American Hartford Gold. In Mathys v. The Hartford Gold Group, LLC, No. 20 C 3927 (N.D. Ill., Dec. 7, 2020), the defendants included "The Hartford Gold Group, LLC d/b/a American Hartford Gold Group." The amended complaint alleged ten counts, including breach of contract and fraud. The court granted the motion to compel arbitration, rejected the plaintiff's unconscionability arguments and terminated the case. That ruling decides where the dispute is heard; it made no finding on the merits, and the allegations are unproven. A second matter, McDougall v. The Hartford Gold Group (C.D. Cal. No. 2:23-cv-03912), was listed on a Justia docket snapshot retrieved May 22, 2023, as a Telephone Consumer Protection Act case; we state no outcome.
Noble Gold Investments. As of our 2026-10-15 check, a web search of regulator and court news for the company name and "Golden Bull, LLC" turned up no order, judgment or regulator press release naming the company. That is not a clean-record finding.
Both. As of our 2026-10-15 check, the CFPB consumer complaint database returned no results for either name. FINRA's BrokerCheck firm-name search returned one firm for "american hartford" and three for "noble gold," none of them these companies.
Where do each company's own pages disagree?
| Company | Conflict on its own pages |
|---|---|
| American Hartford Gold | Contracting name: "American Hartford Gold, LLC" in the agreement, "American Hartford Gold Group" in the website terms, "American Hartford Gold" on the home page |
| American Hartford Gold | Arbitrator: JAMS (agreement) vs AAA (website terms); law: customer's state vs California; liability: amount paid vs $100 |
| American Hartford Gold | Depositories: the Gold IRA article's list names three, while its text mentions locations in Texas, Delaware, Salt Lake City, New York and Los Angeles, and "DDSC" and "Brinks" |
| American Hartford Gold | Stale figures: the Gold IRA article gives 2025 contribution limits ($7,000, or $8,000 if 50 or older); the figures are out of date and we do not repeat them |
| Noble Gold Investments | Fees: $50/$125/$160 vs $80/$275 (see the fee table above) |
| Noble Gold Investments | Footer names two entities: "Golden Bull, LLC dba Noble Gold Investments" and "NOBLE GOLD, INC.," without explanation |
Both sites also make rating, award and experience claims. We have not verified or repeated them.
What differs and what does not?
Differs, as published:
- IRA minimum: American Hartford Gold's FAQ states $10,000; Noble Gold's IRA pages state $20,000.
- Dollar account fees: American Hartford Gold publishes none on the pages we read; Noble Gold publishes two conflicting sets.
- Spread: American Hartford Gold's agreement states ranges up to 59.99%; Noble Gold states no figure.
- Disputes: American Hartford Gold's documents contain arbitration clauses and a jury waiver; we found none in Noble Gold's Terms & Conditions.
- Court records: one federal arbitration order found for American Hartford Gold; none found for Noble Gold in the searches we ran.
Does not differ, as published:
- Both are shown by BBB, per our screenshots, as A+ and accredited.
- Neither publishes a guarantee of a buyback price that we found.
- Both name Equity Trust as a custodian on at least one page.
What questions should you ask each company?
For American Hartford Gold:
- What are the setup, annual and storage fees today? Which custodian's schedule applies?
- Which custodian and depository will hold my account, and is Entrust or STRATA involved?
- What is the spread on the exact products I would buy, and what would you pay to buy them back today?
- Which version of the agreement applies, and which arbitration provider, law and liability limit: those in the agreement or in the website terms?
- What is the legal name of the company I contract with?
For Noble Gold Investments:
- Is the setup fee $50 or $80? Is the annual cost $285 (our own sum of the $125 and $160 lines on the IRA pages) or $275?
- Which custodian will hold my Gold IRA and my Silver IRA, and what is its fee schedule?
- Is storage with IDS or at another Texas depository? Is it segregated, and what does it cost?
- What is the premium over spot, and what is the current buyback price for the products I would buy? What are the buyback terms?
- Which agreement do I sign, and does it contain arbitration or other dispute terms?
- Is my contract with Golden Bull, LLC, NOBLE GOLD, INC. or another entity?
What did we not check?
We did not check state attorney general or securities regulator records, PACER, state courts, SEC EDGAR, NFA BASIC, or bbb.org directly (it blocks automated access). We did not obtain Noble Gold's purchase agreement or Equity Trust's fee PDF on 2026-10-18, speak to either company, test buyback quotes or verify any company claim about sales, clients, ratings or awards. This page gives no personal advice; a fee-only financial adviser, tax professional or attorney can address your situation.
How was this page researched?
On 2026-10-18 we re-opened the company pages, American Hartford Gold's 2026/09 agreement, the Equity Trust, STRATA and New Direction pages and the Mathys opinion. BBB figures are from owner screenshots of 2026-10-15; the CFPB, FINRA, IRS list and Justia items are from our 2026-10-15 check. The page is reviewed quarterly. If a company has changed a term, tell us at the contact address on our site and we will check it against the company's pages.
