Gold IRA Custodian Directory (Verified Data)

Updated October 17, 2026Facts checked against sources on October 17, 2026

The short answer

This directory lists eight custodians that publish precious-metals IRA information, in alphabetical order, with the charter or regulator each profile states, published fees, depositories named and the date each profile was last verified. It is not a ranking or a recommendation. Fees and status can change, so confirm them with the custodian.

This directory puts the main facts from our custodian profiles in one place. It is part of our guide to Gold IRA Custodians. A custodian is the financial company that legally holds your IRA, keeps its records and files its tax forms. Every row below was copied from a published profile, and each profile cites the custodian's own documents. Nothing here is a recommendation, a rating or a ranking.

Custodians are listed alphabetically by name, ignoring "The." The order carries no meaning. Statements about a company are that company's claims unless a public record is named. Fees and status change, so the verified date on each row tells you how old the information is.

How do the charters and regulators compare?

The table shows what each profile says about the custodian's charter or regulator, and what the profile found when it searched the IRS list of approved nonbank trustees dated April 1, 2026.

The Entrust GroupAn administrator. Entrust says its affiliate, The Entrust Trust Company, is the custodian, "regulated by the State of Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions" and "chartered as a non-depository bank." Equity Trust CompanyThe South Dakota Division of Banking list (September 2026) shows a "TC.2, Public Trust Company," first issued 03/01/2003.No entry found. The company says the list "does not include entities that qualify as an IRA custodian under state law." That is its statement.2026-10-13
GoldStar Trust CompanyIts site says "a division of Centennial Bank." The parent's 2024 Form 10-K calls it a trust operating subsidiary and a "limited services trust company." The profile did not confirm a regulator. No entry found for GoldStar, Centennial Bank, Happy State Bank or Home BancShares2026-10-13

New Direction Trust CompanyCompany pages state no charter or regulator. A 2018 trade article calls it "a Kansas-regulated trust company." The profile could not confirm that.No entry found2026-10-13
Preferred Trust CompanyThe company says Nevada's Financial Institutions Division supervises it and gives License No. TR10025. The profile could not confirm the number on a state page.No entry found2026-10-13
STRATA Trust CompanyThe company says it is a "Texas-chartered trust company" regulated by the Texas Department of Banking. The Texas page does not name STRATA.No entry found2026-10-13
uDirect IRA ServicesAn administrator. It says it uses American Estate & Trust, which calls itself Nevada-chartered. A Nevada Financial Institutions Division list (file dated 1.26.2026) includes "American Estate & Trust Inc."No entry found for uDirect or American Estate & Trust2026-10-13

"No entry found" is not a legal conclusion, and no profile draws one. A company can qualify in other ways, and the IRS updates its list often. The IRS says certain bullion avoids collectible treatment only if a bank or approved non-bank trustee keeps physical possession of it. Ask each custodian in writing how it qualifies. Our guide to custodian requirements explains the two routes.

What fees do custodians publish?

These are the custodian's own published amounts, as each profile copied them. Schedules carry different dates and bundle services differently, so do not add up one row and compare it with another. Each profile lists more charges than shown here.

Storage is often a separate line. As the profiles state it:

  • Equity Trust: $110 a year non-segregated, $160 segregated. Each depository may add its own fees.
  • GoldStar: $125 a year commingled; $225 minimum segregated, no maximum.
  • Madison: $100 minimum at Delaware Depository, covering the first $100,000 of metal; above that, $1 per $1,000 of value.
  • STRATA: $115 a year commingled; $175 segregated.
  • uDirect: 50 basis points a year on the first $100,000, 25 on $100,000 to $500,000 and 10 above $500,000, with a $12 monthly minimum. A basis point is one-hundredth of one percent.
  • Preferred, Entrust and New Direction: the depository sets storage fees. No amounts are on file in these profiles.

Where do the published figures conflict or fall short?

  • uDirect and its custodian. uDirect's fee page shows a $275 annual fee and a $15 wire fee. Our hidden fees guide reads American Estate & Trust's own schedule (V12162025) as "Qualified Accounts Annual" $400 and a $30 wire. Both are shown as published. We cannot say which applies to a uDirect account.
  • STRATA setup fee. The profile reads "$50 (waived for electronic)." Our custodian fees guide says it did not confirm how the page pairs the waiver and the $50.
  • Unreadable lines. The Madison and New Direction profiles left out fee lines they could not read. New Direction's other charges are therefore not on file here.
  • Equity Trust. Its two schedules differ on selling, in-kind distributions and maintenance brackets, as the table shows. The profile did not review its institutional schedule.
  • Dates. STRATA and uDirect show no effective date. New Direction's schedule dates from November 2024.

Which depositories do custodians list?

A depository is the secure vault that stores the metal. This table shows what each profile says the custodian names.

The Entrust GroupA-Mark Global Logistics (Las Vegas, NV and Dallas, TX); Dakota Depository Company (Fargo, ND); Delaware Depository Services Company (Wilmington, DE); Idaho Armored Vaults, LLC (Nampa, ID)Segregated and allocated; Dakota lists segregated

uDirect IRA ServicesNone named ("a metals storage depot")The company says segregated

The names differ between profiles. STRATA and GoldStar name a "Texas Precious Metals Depository" ("TPMD") in Shiner, Texas. Equity Trust lists the "Texas Bullion Depository," which our profile of it places in Leander, Texas. We have not confirmed whether these are the same operation.

What do the depository profiles say?

We have published profiles of four depositories. Each lists what the vault says about itself and what its custodians publish.

  • Brink's Global Services (verified 2026-10-13): Brink's own pages describe vaulting, all-risk insurance and audit practices but do not mention IRAs. The IRA link comes from custodian documents. A 2017 Entrust form lists storage at "$1.50 per $1,000 (15 basis points)" with a "$125.00 minimum annual fee."
  • CNT Depository (verified 2026-10-14): CNT says it offers only segregated, allocated storage and is insured through Lloyd's of London. Its pages publish no rates. A 2016 Entrust form shows $1.00 per $1,000 (10 basis points) and a $175.00 minimum annual fee.
  • Delaware Depository (verified 2026-10-13): sites in Wilmington, Delaware and Boulder City, Nevada. It says it offers segregated and non-segregated storage. Its undated fee schedule lists 0.50% a year for non-segregated storage and 1.5% for segregated storage.
  • Texas Bullion Depository (verified 2026-10-14): set up by Texas law as a state agency, with a private company, Lone Star Tangible Assets, running it. It says it offers only segregated storage. Its posted rate of 0.49% applies to non-IRA accounts. IRA fees are negotiated, so the IRA rate is not on file.

Delaware Depository's published percentages look different from the dollar amounts several custodians list for storage there, such as Madison's $100 minimum and STRATA's $115 or $175. We do not know which accounts the depository's schedule covers. Our fee database shows these figures side by side.

Which custodians are not profiled?

We have not published profiles of Kingdom Trust or Midland Trust Company. This directory therefore says nothing about their fees, regulators or depositories. Profile links such as Kingdom Trust and Midland Trust Company will become active if we publish them. The eight custodians above are not a complete list of the market.

How should you use this directory?

Use it to build your question list, not to pick a name. Ask each custodian for its current fee schedule and effective date, the exact legal entity on your account papers, how it qualifies as an IRA custodian, which depositories it uses and what they charge. Our guide on how to evaluate a Gold IRA custodian gives a fuller checklist. A tax professional or attorney can review the answers for your situation.

What does this directory leave out?

The profiles did not systematically search complaint databases, court records or ratings sites, so a missing mention is not a clean record. We plan to re-verify each profile quarterly. Dealer premiums and spreads are separate from custodian fees and are not covered here.
