Gold IRA RMD Calculator
Estimate a required minimum distribution (RMD) from last year's year-end balance and the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table, in dollars and, if you enter a spot price, in approximate ounces.
| Uniform Lifetime Table factor for age 75 | 24.6 |
|---|---|
| Arithmetic | $100,000.00 ÷ 24.6 = $4,065.04 |
This uses the Uniform Lifetime Table only. It does not apply if your spouse is the sole beneficiary and is more than 10 years younger, if the IRA is inherited, or if you have several accounts. It does not decide whether you must start taking distributions yet.
How this calculator works
The IRS says the RMD is the account balance at the end of the immediately preceding calendar year divided by a distribution period from the Uniform Lifetime Table (or another table in certain cases). The IRS RMD pages we read say IRA owners generally must start withdrawals at age 73, with the first RMD due by April 1 of the year after the year you reach 73 and later RMDs by December 31. They do not describe other starting ages, and start-age rules have changed over the years, so this tool does not decide when your first RMD is due. Check the IRS RMD page or ask a tax professional.
The Uniform Lifetime Table is used when your spouse is not the sole beneficiary, or is not more than 10 years younger. The IRS lists a different table when the sole beneficiary is a spouse more than 10 years younger. The IRS says you may owe a 25% excise tax on an amount not taken as required, or 10% if the shortfall is corrected within 2 years.
If you hold more than one IRA, or the IRA is inherited, other rules apply that this tool does not cover. Ounces are only dollars divided by the spot price you enter.
